If you’ve been with us for a while, you know The Sugar Cube isn’t your average coffee shop. We’re a small, woman-owned roastery and walk-up/drive-thru spot right here in Wheat Ridge, located on Wadsworth. We’ve built this business with heart, hard work, and the love of amazing coffee — and even more amazing people (that’s you!).
But being a small coffee business in today’s world? It’s not always easy.
The Rising Cost of Coffee (and Everything Else)
Over the past couple of years, the cost of coffee beans has climbed dramatically — and not just a little. From shipping delays and fuel prices to climate impacts on growing regions, the entire coffee supply chain has been affected. Farmers are facing unpredictable weather patterns, shipping costs are at record highs, and roasters everywhere are feeling the squeeze.
And it’s not just the beans. Milk, cups, syrups, packaging — even napkins — have all gone up in price. For a small shop like ours that refuses to cut corners on quality or sourcing ethics, these increases hit hard. But we stay committed to doing things the right way, because our customers deserve nothing less than the best.
Construction Chaos: The Never-Ending Wadsworth Project
If you’ve driven down Wadsworth lately, you know exactly what we’re talking about. Construction began back in November 2021, and it feels like it’s been part of our daily life ever since. Between lane closures, detours, and blocked access points, it’s been a real challenge to keep things running smoothly — especially for a small drive-thru business like ours.
There have been days when we’ve had to get creative just to help customers find their way in and out. But through it all, you’ve stuck with us — honking, waving, and showing up for your favorite drinks despite the cones and chaos.
We can’t thank you enough for that. Truly.
Looking Forward with Gratitude
Even with all the challenges, we’re feeling hopeful and inspired. We’re continuing to roast small batches of our Sugar Cube Espresso Blend, Birds of Prey Beaver Blend, and Ethiopian Sidamo single origin — and dreaming up some fun new offerings for the months ahead.
We’re also working on fresh ways to connect with our community — more local collaborations, seasonal specials, and maybe even a few surprises to show our appreciation for everyone who’s supported us through thick and thin.
To our longtime regulars and our new visitors just discovering The Sugar Cube: thank you. Your kindness, patience, and loyalty mean the world to us. You’re the reason we keep pouring our hearts (and coffee) into every single cup.
Here’s to brighter days, better roads, and even better coffee.
We’re so grateful to have you along for the ride.
☕❤️
